Camassias are late spring-blooming bulbs that are native to North America. Left undisturbed, they are a
vigorous grower and will increase freely in damp soil.
The 1-2 inch, star-shaped flowers can range in colors from white, blue, blue-violet or mauve. Some of the
newer varieties have double flowers. Flowers are borne on 6-12 lacy-looking, tall spikes in May and June
well above the foliage.
Their green grass-like, somewhat succulent leaves form nice 1-2 foot mounds. Some of the newer varieties
available now, have varigated foliage. Planted in damp soil, they are great for sunny beds or borders.
Bulbs should be planted in the fall, the same time you are planting most other spring-blooming bulbs. It
is always a good practice to mix a little bonemeal and peat in with the soil when planting most bulbs.
Also make note of planting locations, for future reference.
